Sitakant Mahapatra (English: Sitakant Mahapatra, born – 17 September, 1937, Odisha) is a famous writer of Odia language, awarded the ‘Jnanpith Award’ in 1993.
In 2003, the Government of India honoured Sitakant Mohapatra with the ‘Padma Bhushan’ in the field of literature and education. The poetic world of his poetry is created from a solitary blend of reality and feeling. The cultural base of his poems is the product of his experience. The window of the past through which Sitakant Mohapatra observes the village footpath, pond, river, house, temple, sunrise, sunset and human relations etc. and easily expresses it in his poetry, automatically captivates the readers.
