A man in Madhya Pradesh has accused four people of beating him. He says that he was beaten up after he refused to become a member of the BJP.

A man in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district alleged that four unidentified persons attacked him after he refused to become a member of the BJP. Police registered a case after the man lodged a complaint, an official said on Tuesday. The alleged incident took place at a toll plaza on National Highway-39 under Bamitha police station area on Monday.

Police said the complainant, 27-year-old Manvendra Singh Yadav, works as a driver for a National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) engineer. According to the complainant, four men approached him at the toll plaza around noon on Monday and asked for his mobile phone. The men said he needed to give them a missed call to make him a BJP member, the official said.

The FIR states that when Yadav refused to identify himself as a BJP member, he was allegedly abused. He was thrashed and his mobile phone was snatched by four men.

Chhatarpur Superintendent of Police Agam Jain said that following the FIR lodged by Yadav, a case has been registered at Bamitha police station against four unidentified persons under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. He said further investigation is underway.
