Born on 19 September 1958 in Bangalore, Lucky Ali was born in the house of famous Bollywood actor Mehmood. Father Mehmood achieved a different position in Bollywood on the basis of his acting and Lucky Ali also got the benefit of this. Cinema came to him as inheritance. It is said that the relationship between Ali and his father was full of ups and downs. The 1960s and 70s were very busy for Mehmood and due to this he could not even meet his son Lucky. He did not recognize his father Mehmood, when Lucky saw him, he said, ‘This is film comedian Mehmood.’
He started his acting career with the film Chhote Nawab (1962) directed by his father Mehmood. He also worked in films like ‘Yeh Hai Zindagi’ (1977), ‘Humare Tumhare’ (1979) and Shyam Benegal’s ‘Trikal’ (1985). After spending a long time acting in films, he did not get much success and after this he started his singing career with the album ‘Sunoh’ released in 1996. The songs of this album broke all the records and made Lucky Ali a singing superstar overnight. This album also won many awards. His song “O Sanam” became very popular and was appreciated all over the world.
After staying away from acting for a long time, he re-entered his film career with Sanjay Gupta’s film ‘Kaante’ (2002). Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Sunil Shetty were also in important roles in this film. Meanwhile, he continued doing films and singing.
He established himself in the film industry as a singer-songwriter, composer and actor. Lucky Ali has sung songs for films like ‘Kaho Naa Pyar Hai’ (2000), Sur (2002) and ‘Tamasha’ (2015). Even at the age of 66, Lucky Ali is seen doing singing shows.
