Sachin Pilgaonkar
Mumbai. Veteran star and filmmaker Sachin Pilgaonkar directed the iconic hit show ‘Tu Tu Main Main’ in 1994. He has said that he would like to bring it on the digital platform. ‘Tu Tu Main Main’ first premiered on DD Metro in 1994 and was also aired on ‘Star Plus’ in 1996. It featured actors like late actress Reema Lagoo, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Swapnil Joshi, Sachin and Ali Asgar.
The show revolved around the arguments, love and hate between the daughter-in-law and mother-in-law.
“Well, ‘Tu Tu Main Main’ was a runway hit and it was loved not only by elders, mothers-in-law, daughters-in-law, but even by children who had no idea about marriage. They used to enjoy it a lot,” Sachin said. The actor-filmmaker, who is gearing up for the release of his film ‘Navara Maza Navasacha 2’, said he has met many people who told him that they grew up watching “Tu Tu Main Main”, which had 169 episodes. However, there is a valid reason why the show cannot be made right now.
The 90s were a different era
He said, ‘But ‘Tu Tu Main Main’ cannot be made because that was the era of weekly shows.’ He said, ‘Earlier there used to be one episode in a week. Today’s format is of daily soap. Such comedy cannot happen in a daily soap. Unless you put it on the OTT platform and make a limited series of such comedy.’ Sachin wants to bring the show on OTT. He said, ‘I would love to bring ‘Tu Tu Main Main’ on OTT in my own way. Definitely looking at today’s scenario and the first casting that comes to my mind is Supriya Pilgaonkar should now come in the role of mother-in-law, not in the role of daughter-in-law.’
