When the salesman asked him for a bottle of McDowell, he charged him Rs 680. When the District Magistrate saw the MRP, it was Rs 660. In this way, the District Magistrate found over-rating of Rs 20.
When other staff reached the contract, they found out that the customer wearing pant-shirt was not a common customer but the District Magistrate himself. As soon as they came to know about this, panic spread among the contract employees. The District Magistrate ordered the contract operator to give the money. Currency worth 50 thousand was issued.
Actually, there are constant complaints of over-rating at liquor shops. When the officers raid, over-rating stops for a day or two, after which the operators again go back to their old ways. Now the new District Magistrate has also received complaints of over-rating at liquor shops.
The District Magistrate himself came to the field to take action. He took a private vehicle from his residence and drove it himself to the English liquor shop located on Old Mussoorie Road. Seeing the officer of ordinary stature, no one knew that this person was the District Magistrate. When the District Magistrate asked the price of some bottles, the salesman told him about each bottle.
After this he asked for a bottle of McDowell. The contractor got money from the District Magistrate. 680 were taken. He found that the MRP on it was 20 rupees less. After some time the official convoy of the District Magistrate also arrived.
When the SDM and the excise team arrived, it was learned that the District Magistrate had raided the shop. After this, the District Magistrate also checked the stock etc. inside the shop. District Magistrate Savin Bansal said that a challan of Rs 50 thousand has been issued against the shop operator. Along with this, subordinate officers have been ordered to raid other places in the city as well.
The District Magistrate also took information from the people living nearby. Everyone said that if they come to the shop, they are charged 20 to 25 rupees more. Even if you protest to the salesman, he says that if you want to buy, take it, otherwise buy it from somewhere else. By reminding of the strictness of the administration, people are refrained from talking about irrelevant things.
