Annapurnanand (English: Annpurnanand, born- 21 September, 1895; died- 4 December, 1962) was a pioneer among the artists who wrote polite humor in English. He entered the field of literature at the age of 22, and his first essay- ‘Khopdi’ was published in the famous humor magazine ‘Matwala’. He has mainly written stories, in which the plan of humor is based on the level of language and irony of situations. He raised the level of English literature of polite humor. Annapurnanand wrote very little but whatever he wrote was written to remove the evils with sweet jokes towards the society and to awaken the society without having any hatred or envy towards anyone. His humor was of a different category from mere clowning.
Annapurnanand was a resident of Kashi, Uttar Pradesh. He has embodied the atmosphere of Kashi city in most of his stories. The author himself stayed in Kashi all the time. He also stayed in Lucknow for some days with his elder brother Sampurnanand, who was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Annapurnanand worked with Shri Shriprakash for some time in Pandit Motilal Nehru’s newspaper ‘Independent’. Annapurnanand was the personal secretary of philanthropist Shivprasad Gupta. He also travelled the world with Guptaji.
