Method of performing Shraadh
Wake up early in the morning in Brahma Muhurta.
After bathing, wear clean clothes.
Purify the ancestral place by coating it with cow dung and Ganga water.
After taking bath, women should prepare satvik food for the ancestors.
Invite Brahmins for the Shraddha feast in advance.
After the arrival of Brahmins, make them perform the worship and offering of water to the ancestors.
Take a pledge to perform Shraddha by taking the names of your ancestors.
Mix black sesame seeds in water and offer it to your ancestors.
Offer cow’s milk, ghee, kheer and curd in the fire for the sake of ancestors.
Make rice balls and offer them to your ancestors.
Feed the Brahmin with full respect.
Give donation according to your capacity.
After this, take their blessings and bid them farewell.
In Shraddha, apart from the ancestors, there is a provision to feed food to crow, cow, dog and ants.
On the day of Shraddha, preparations should be made for the arrival of ancestors by sprinkling cold water on both sides of the door. A worthy Brahmin should be fed and sent off by giving clothes etc. Shraddha, Tarpan and Pinddaan are performed for the peace of the souls of ancestors.
