Three female Naxalites and one male Naxalite surrendered in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. A total reward of Rs 20 lakh was announced on these Naxalites. Giving information about this, the police said that along with this, under the ‘Loan Varratu’ (a word spoken in the local Gondi dialect which means return to your home/village) campaign started in June 2020, so far 872 Naxalites have given up the path of violence in Dantewada.
Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai said that four Naxalites including a couple surrendered before senior police officers in Dantewada. He said that among them Hunga Tamo alias Tamo Surya (37) and his wife Aayiti Tati (35) were active in the Maoists’ regional company number 2 and a reward of eight lakh rupees each was announced on both of them.
Rai said that they were allegedly involved in the attack on security personnel in the forests of Pamde (Bijapur) on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana interstate border in 2018. He said that a reward of Rs 3 lakh and Rs 1 lakh was announced on two female Naxalites Deve alias Vijje (25) and Madvi respectively. Rai said that these four people, residents of neighboring Sukma district, have been given assistance of Rs 25,000 each and they will be rehabilitated as per the government policy.
Apart from this, 8 more Naxalites have also surrendered leaving the path of violence. Many of them had rewards of lakhs of rupees on their heads. Chhattisgarh Police informed that these included the commander of Platoon 12, a member of Platoon 2 and the President of Jantana Sarkar, who had a reward of 8 lakhs on their heads. All these surrendered Naxalites were involved in incidents of murder, loot etc. in the year 1994.
