In the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon, Israeli air strikes on Monday caused heavy destruction in the southern and eastern areas of Lebanon. According to Lebanese officials, more than 490 people died in these attacks, more than 90 of whom were women and children. This attack is being described as the deadliest attack since the Israel-Hezbollah war in 2006.
The Israeli military had already warned people living in the south and east of Lebanon to evacuate as it stepped up its air strikes against Hezbollah.
Massacre and exodus in Lebanon
According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, Monday’s attacks killed 492 people, including 35 children and 58 women. In addition, 1,645 people were injured, making it one of the largest attacks in a single day. Lebanon is still trying to recover from last week’s deadly attacks, in which many communications equipment were targeted.
Migration crisis from the south
Thousands of people are fleeing their homes in southern Lebanon. Huge crowds were seen on the main highway leading from the southern port city of Sidon, where people were fleeing towards the capital Beirut. This is the largest exodus since the 2006 war.
