Ambala Cantt 23 September (IANS). All eyes are on the Ambala Cantt assembly seat of veteran BJP leader Anil Vij in the electoral state of Haryana. Anil Vij is trying to win the election from this seat for the fourth consecutive time.
When the BJP government was formed at the center in 2014 and Narendra Modi took over the responsibility of the post of Prime Minister from the Chief Minister of Gujarat, the same year BJP also returned to power in Haryana. Returning to power for the third time in a row after ruling for 10 years is no less than a challenge for the party. There are many veteran leaders in the Haryana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who have been staking their claim for the post of Chief Minister from time to time. One name among them is Anil Vij. Anil Vij, who has been an MLA six times and a minister in the state government twice, has from time to time shown his personal desire to become the head of the state.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded 71-year-old Anil Vij from the Ambala Cantt assembly seat. He has been an MLA from this seat six times. However, this time the path to becoming an MLA will not be as easy for him as before. In fact, Congress has given ticket to former councilor Parvinder Singh Pari, who is close to Kumari Selja. AAP has tried to woo half the population by giving ticket to Raj Kaur Gill. Onkar Singh from the INLD-BSP alliance and Kardahan from the JJP-ASP alliance are in the fray. Former Congress leader Chitra Sarwara has contested this assembly election as an independent candidate. She was in second place last time.
Anil Vij also faces the big challenge of incumbency. In fact, many election analysts believe that if a party’s government remains in power for two or more consecutive terms, then the inclination of voters towards it decreases a bit.
If we talk in terms of voters, there are about 80 thousand Punjabi and Jat Sikh voters in Ambala Cantt. The second largest number of voters are from the Vaish community. BJP has faith in the Punjabi and Jat Sikh voters here. On the other hand, the party is also confident about the OBC community. Vij can also get the advantage of presenting his claim for the post of Chief Minister. If Vij wins the election this time, then he will have the distinction of becoming MLA from Ambala Cantt for four consecutive times and seven times in total.
Let us tell you that voting is to be held on October 5 in Haryana which has 90 assembly seats, while its results will be out on October 8. While earlier it was considered a direct contest between BJP and Congress, the entry of AAP has given a triangular turn to the election.
