BJP leader Anurag Thakur on Thursday criticised Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over corruption allegations against him in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam.
“I think the Karnataka chief minister should resign after yesterday’s order. He should not be allowed to continue in this post until the allegations are cleared. If there is to be a fair probe, the chief minister should not remain in this post. These are serious allegations of corruption,” Thakur said after a Bengaluru court directed the Karnataka Lokayukta to probe Siddaramaiah in connection with the alleged MUDA scam.
Thakur further said that the allegations against Siddaramaiah reflect a bigger issue with the Congress government. “The allegations against the Chief Minister itself show that ever since the Congress government has come to power in Karnataka, the work of looting people has started again,” he said.
A special court in Bengaluru has directed the Lokayukta police in Mysuru to register a criminal case against the state chief minister and others over alleged illegalities in the allotment of 14 sites worth Rs 56 crore to his wife by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
The court directed the Lokayukta Superintendent of Police to enforce the provisions relating to prevention of corruption, prohibition of benami properties and land grabbing mentioned in various laws.
Thakur also spoke about the “Developed India-Youth Connect” program organized by the Department of Youth Affairs. The initiative aims to inspire the youth of India to become a developed nation. He emphasized, “The next 23 years are crucial for the country. We have to take Developed India from Sankalp to Siddhi.”
He urged the youth to contribute to the country’s progress and reminded them of the sacrifices of their ancestors in the freedom struggle. “They have given their lives; they need to live. They liberated the country and the wealth needs to be developed,” Thakur said.
Acknowledging that today’s youth play a vital role in various sectors from start-ups to defence, he said, “We have the largest youth population in the world.”
