In Switzerland, several arrests are being made one after the other in this case. After the death of an elderly woman in America, this matter became so heated that even the Interior Minister of Switzerland had to give a statement on it. He said that doing so is illegal.
Actually, this whole matter is related to euthanasia. Euthanasia is illegal in most countries including India. Hypoxia is a capsule-like thing, by going inside which an American woman gave up her life.
As soon as the person going for euthanasia enters the hypoxia death capsule, he has to go inside and press a button, after which the oxygen present inside turns into nitrogen, which leads to the death of that person.
Was battling a serious illness for years
Euthanasia is banned in Switzerland, but assisted dying is legal. Switzerland’s Interior Minister Elisabeth Baum-Schneider told lawmakers that it is not legal. Police said several people have been detained and criminal proceedings are being initiated against them.
The controversy began when an organization called The Last Resort said in a podcast in July that they expected it to be used for the first time within a few months.
There are no legal barriers to its use in Switzerland. In a statement to AFP, he said that the woman who died of hypoxia was 64 years old and belonged to the US.
She was suffering from a serious illness for years. The woman’s death has been described as peaceful and dignified. When the matter gained momentum, the Public Prosecutor said that criminal proceedings have been initiated against many people for abetting suicide and they have also been arrested.
