Amid election excitement in Haryana, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday said it has seized assets worth over Rs 44 crore of entities linked to Haryana Congress MLA Rao Dan Singh, his son and some others as part of a money laundering probe. . 65-year-old Rao Dan Singh is an MLA from Mahendragarh, Haryana. In the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections, Congress has again fielded him from this seat.
The ED said in a statement that the attachment includes 31 flats of Coban Residency located in Sector 99A of Gurugram, Haryana, owned by ‘entities’ of Rao Dan Singh and his son Akshat Singh and 2.25 acres of land in Harsaru village of Gurugram. ED has said that flats and lands of Suncity Projects Private Limited and entities associated with ILD Group located in Delhi, Gurugram, Rewari (Haryana) and Jaipur (Rajasthan) have also been attached.
The money laundering case is based on a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR against a company called Allied Strips Ltd for alleged bank loan fraud of Rs 1,392 crore. The agency claimed that entities linked to Singh received Rs 19 crore from the money earned from this alleged bank loan fraud. “Rao Dan Singh and his family members have not yet joined the investigation,” the ED said.

Earlier, the ED had arrested Haryana Congress MLA Surendra Panwar in a separate money laundering case, which Panwar had challenged in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. A few days ago, the High Court had given a big relief and canceled the arrest of Panwar. The court said the agency had ‘no facts’ to indicate the MLA’s involvement in the crime. Justice Mahavir Singh Sindhu gave this order while granting bail on Monday. Panwar is the outgoing Congress MLA from Sonipat and is also the Congress candidate from the same seat in the current elections. He was released from jail after three months. (with language inputs)
