Yash Raj Chopra (English: Yash Raj Chopra, born: September 27, 1932; death: October 21, 2012) is a famous film director, screenwriter and film producer of Indian Hindi cinema. Yash Chopra is called the “King of Romance” of Hindi cinema. Yash Chopra, who has made many excellent and romantic films like Deewaar, Kabhi Kabhie, Darr, Chandni, Silsila, Dil To Pagal Hai, Veer Zara, has given new meaning to romance and love on screen.
Yash Chopra was born on September 27, 1932 in Lahore which is now in Pakistan. After independence he came to India. His elder brother B. R. Chopra was a well-known producer and director of Bollywood. It was on the inspiration of his elder brother that he also tried his hand in films and today Yash Chopra’s family is one of the prestigious banners of Bollywood. His sons Aditya Chopra and Uday Chopra are also associated with films. Yash Chopra started working with his brother as a co-director. Your brother B. Yash Chopra directed the film ‘Dhool Ka Phool’ for the first time in 1959, made under his brother’s banner. After this, he also directed ‘Dharma Putra’ under his brother’s banner. Both the films were average successes but Yash Chopra’s hard work was visible to everyone. The film ‘Waqt’ released in the year 1965 proved to be Yash Chopra’s first hit film. The audience still remembers the song “Aye Meri Johra Jabeen Tujhe Maloom Nahi” from this film. The film ‘Ittefaq’ is one of his selected films in which apart from comedy and romance, he also worked on thriller.
In 1973, he ventured into film production and founded the Yash Raj banner. It started with the superhit film ‘Daag’ starring Rajesh Khanna. The success of this film gave him a new name in Bollywood. After this came the 1975 film ‘Deewar’ in which Amitabh Bachchan acted. The success of this film brought Yash Chopra into the category of successful directors. Where actors started visiting his house to work in his films. After this, Yash Chopra worked with Amitabh in films like ‘Silsila’, ‘Kabhi Kabhi’. Although Yash Chopra had to taste the bitter taste of failure in the early 80s, ‘Chandni’ in 1989 made him a successful and hit director again. ‘Lamhe’, released in 1991, also proved to be a superhit film of this era. After this, in 1995, he ventured into the film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ as a producer. This film starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol created a new history in Bollywood.
