During the Pitru Paksha, people are performing the tripartika Gaya Shraddha for their ancestors and are offering Pind Daan by visiting the altar on Pind Daani Tithi. In this sequence, on Sunday, the 13th day of Pitru Paksha, the pilgrims reached the place where Mahabali Bhima performed Pinda Daan. Bhima went to the altar and prayed for the salvation of his ancestors. After offering Pind Daan at the Bhimagaya altar situated on the way to Maa Mangalagauri, he also had darshan and worship of Bhima’s knee mark present inside the circle. It is said that Pandu’s son Bhima had performed Pind Daan at this place for the salvation of his father.
After the Pind Daan, the Pind was offered in the left knee mark (pit) on the rock in the premises itself. While performing Pind Daan, he was sitting with his left knee bent. For this reason there is a knee-like mark on a rock. Now this place is known as Bhim Gaya Vedi. After the Pind Daan in Bhimgaya, the Pind Daanis visited and worshiped Maa Mangala in the temple situated on Bhasmakoot mountain.
After offering Pind Daan at the Bhimgaya altar located on the Bhasmakoot hill of salvation of ancestors, the group of people performing the tripartite Gaya Shraddha reached the Goprachar altar situated on the left side of Maa Mangalagauri temple. Here too, by offering Pinda, they prayed for the salvation of their ancestors. The pilgrims carefully offered Pinda on the mark made by the cow’s hoof on the cow offering altar. Due to less space at the Bhimgaya and Goprachar altars, the Pind Daan performed Pind Daan sitting on the roof and premises of Maa Mangalagauri temple. Pilgrims sat wherever they found space, including the recitation pavilion and Dharamshala, and remembered their ancestors. After the Pind Daan at the Bhimgaya altar, the Pind was offered in the left knee mark (pit) on the rock in the premises itself. The pilgrims carefully offered Pinda on the mark made by the cow’s hoof on the cow offering altar.
Pind Daani will celebrate Diwali of ancestors
On Monday, the 14th day of Pitru Paksha (Ashwin Krishna Paksha Trayodashi), a crowd of pilgrims performing the tripakshi Pind Daan will gather in the Falgu River. In the evening the pilgrims will celebrate Diwali for the ancestors. Chairman of Shri Vishnupad Management Committee, Shambhu Lal Vitthal and Secretary and Gayapal Gajadhar Lal Pathak said that Pind Daani will perform tripartite Gaya Shraddha and light lamps at Falgu Ghats on Monday evening in the memory of their ancestors. On this date, offering Pind Daan for the departed ancestors has special significance. Those whose ancestors did not pass away on this date will only donate tarpan, devdarshan and lamp.
