Maharashtra Politics: Just before the assembly elections in Maharashtra, the BJP government has played a big Hindu card. Eknath Shinde government has given the status of mother of the state to the desi cow. Announcing this decision, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that desi cows are a boon for all of us.
The state government said that cow has great glory in Indian culture and Hindu religion. Along with this, the Maharashtra government has also issued a notification for the promotion and protection of cow rearing. This notification has been issued by the Dairy Department. It is noteworthy that Maharashtra has become the second state to give the status of state mother to cow. Earlier in 2018, the Uttarakhand government had given the status of Mother of the State to the cow.
According to the Maharashtra government, the usefulness of local cow’s milk in human diet, Ayurveda medicine, Panchgavya treatment system and importance of cow dung and cow urine in organic farming systems has been explained in Indian culture since the Vedic period. In view of the important place of the desi cow in Indian culture, it has now been given the status of “Mother of the State”.
According to the information received from the Chief Minister’s Office, in the Maharashtra Cabinet meeting on Monday, it has also given the green signal to implement the subsidy scheme of Rs 50 per day for the rearing of indigenous cows. This decision has been taken for better care of cows in cowsheds. The subsidy scheme will be implemented online by Maharashtra Goseva Commission. A District Cowshala Verification Committee will be established in every district of Maharashtra.
The number of indigenous cows is declining
Cows of indigenous breeds like Deori, Lalkanari are found in Marathwada of Maharashtra and Dangi and Shavdabh in North Maharashtra. The number of indigenous cows has declined rapidly in the last few years. The government has expressed concern over the decline in the number of indigenous cows. The Maharashtra government hopes that giving the status of ‘Rajyamata’ to desi cows will encourage farmers.
