Lucknow, Amrit Vichar: To reduce the use of wood in Baikunth Dham (Bhansakund), the Municipal Corporation is spending Rs 3 crore and installing 3 green cremation machines. In these machines, along with wood for cremation, cow dung cakes prepared in Kanha Upvan will also be used. With this, the use of approximately 9 maunds of wood for one cremation will be halved.
Municipal Corporation Chief Engineer Mahesh Verma inspected Baikunth Dham on Sunday and took stock of the development works. He told that this system will start from next month. With these machines the use of wood for cremation will be reduced.
Two machines were installed even in 2020, they lasted only for 6 months
During Covid-19, queues were formed for the last rites at Baikunth Dham. There was a shortage of wood for cremation. In view of this, the Electricity Department of the Municipal Corporation had installed two machines. In which instead of 9 maunds of wood, only about 4.5 maunds of wood was spent for cremation. But these machines lasted only for about six months. Since then the machines have been lying idle and almost broken down. Only time will tell how long this experiment will be effective this time.
The new system will be implemented by installing 3 green crimination machines from next month. This will reduce the consumption of wood and the expenses of people coming for cremation will be reduced. Also the demand for wood will decrease.
