Highways have been blocked due to landslides in Himachal Pradesh. The connectivity of Kinnaur district of the state with the capital Shimla was lost when a landslide occurred on National Highway-5 i.e. Hindustan-Tibet Road in Negulsari on Tuesday morning. According to officials, there is no report of any casualty in the landslide. However, this has badly affected the traffic. Due to landslides, a large number of vehicles of tourists and trucks laden with apples are stuck on both sides of the highway.
Last time arrangements were made for an alternative route
Officials said that work is going on at a fast pace to remove debris from the highway. However, the debris falling from the mountains every now and then is creating problems. Last year also there was a landslide in Negulsari. After this, alternative routes were arranged to transport apples and other crops to Shimla and other areas. So that the produce of the farmers reaches the market on time and their losses can be saved.
Alternative route difficult and time consuming
However, transporting apples through ropeway is a difficult and time-consuming task. The ropeway was established between Krampa at Negulsari and Dhumti on the Chaura-Rupi link road. The local meteorological department said that the weather has remained dry in Himachal Pradesh for the last 24 hours and the conditions are favorable for the withdrawal of south-west monsoon from more parts of the state in the next two-three days.
Loss of Rs 1360 crore including 186 deaths
Officials said 186 people have died in rain-related incidents since the arrival of monsoon in the hill state of Himachal Pradesh on June 27. And 28 people are still missing. Let us tell you that the state government has estimated that the state has suffered a loss of about Rs 1,360 crore due to rain this season.
