Nasrallah’s whereabouts found: Israel has achieved a significant military success, Israeli forces killed Hezbollah chief Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah in an air strike.
Reports following the attack claimed that an Iranian spy had informed Israeli officials about Nasrallah’s whereabouts.
Nasrallah had rarely appeared in public since the 34-day war against Israel in 2006 and had long been in hiding.
The Israeli army said it had “eliminated” Nasrallah in a “targeted attack” on Hezbollah’s underground headquarters in the Dahiyah area. Hezbollah also confirmed Nasrallah’s death.
A media report in the context of the incident said that an Iranian spy had informed Israeli officials about Nasrallah’s meeting, at which he was present with other top members of Hezbollah.
Iranian spy told what time Nasrallah would be in Hezbollah’s underground headquarters. Many high-rise buildings were destroyed in the air strikes, and video released by the Israeli Air Force showed these buildings being reduced to rubble in a matter of seconds. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, the attack killed six people and injured 91 others.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said after Nasrallah’s death that the targeting was necessary to achieve his stated goals.
He warned Iran not to attempt any retaliatory attack, saying that Israel has reach to any corner of the Middle East. The attack has further heightened tensions in the region, and fueled speculation over a possible response.
