Calcutta High Court has fixed the next date for hearing the case registered against former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. On Friday, the division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Vibhas Patnaik said that the case will now be heard on Monday. The court has directed the state’s advocate to issue notice to the concerned parties before the hearing.
Vineet Goyal is accused of revealing the name of the trainee doctor, the victim of the rape-murder case that took place in RG Kar Hospital. The matter arose when lawyer Anamika Pandey filed a petition against Goyal in the High Court, demanding registration of an FIR against him.
In an earlier hearing, the High Court had said that the main case related to RG Kar Hospital is pending in the Supreme Court, and this matter should be placed in the Supreme Court only. At that time, the bench of Chief Justice Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmoy Bhattacharya had also said that the High Court would not interfere in this matter but would keep an eye on the decision of the Supreme Court.
On Monday this week, the case related to the incident at RG Kar Hospital was heard in the Supreme Court, in which it was alleged that a trainee doctor was raped and murdered in the hospital. In this context, on Friday, petitioner Anamika Pandey’s lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani argued in the Calcutta High Court that since the Supreme Court has not interfered in this matter, there should be no obstacle for the High Court to hear this case. . Mahesh Jethmalani requested the court to hear this case soon. In response, Chief Justice Sivagnanam said that the court will hear the matter next week.
It is noteworthy that in the case against Vineet Goyal, Jethmalani had earlier argued that the matter should be sent to the Supreme Court because how can a police officer, that too holding such a high position, make the name of the victim public. While Goyal’s lawyer argued that Vineet Goyal has already been transferred and the hearing of the case related to RG Kar Hospital is going on in the Supreme Court, hence this matter no longer has any importance.
