Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party. He said that there is no justification for bowing before Shivaji Maharaj by scaring people and destroying the country’s constitution and institutions. Rahul Gandhi unveiled the statue of Shivaji Maharaj, founder of the Maratha Empire, in Kolhapur in western Maharashtra. Earlier, while addressing the public meeting, Rahul took on the BJP government over the demolition of the statue of the Maratha ruler installed in Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg district. He said that the ideology of the party is not right.
Rahul Gandhi said, ‘There is no justification for bowing one’s head before Shivaji Maharaj after scaring the people and destroying the Constitution and institutions in the country.’ The Congress leader’s comments were clearly targeted at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had apologized to Shivaji Maharaj and the people hurt by the collapse of his statue. He had said that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not just a name or a king. Prime Minister Modi had unveiled the 35-foot-tall statue at Rajkot Fort on the occasion of Navy Day on December 4, 2023, which collapsed on August 26.
‘Had Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj not been there, there would not have been a Constitution.’
Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said that Chhatrapati Shivaji’s message to the world was that the country belongs to everyone. He said that the Indian Constitution is a manifestation of the thoughts of that warrior king. The Congress leader said that if people like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Shahu Maharaj had not been there, there would not have been a Constitution. On the other hand, before the Maharashtra Assembly elections, 65 social organizations have come together and decided to launch the ‘Sajag Raho’ campaign to make the state ‘hate free’. The social activist said on Saturday that it has been observed that caste hatred is being systematically created in the state. Whereas Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has a rich history of uniting people of all castes and creeds in the successful fight for Swarajya.
