New Delhi. CBI has presented its sealed cover report in the Delhi High Court in the case of death of three students in the coaching center accident in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi. After this, the High Court has given three weeks time to CBI and MCD to file the status report of the investigation so far. The court has also ordered the Chief Secretary of Delhi to submit a report on this matter.
This case is of July 2023, when three students preparing for UPSC died due to drowning due to sudden water filling in the basement of a coaching center located in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi. The deceased included 23-year-old Naveen Dalwin (Kerala), 25-year-old Shreya Yadav (Uttar Pradesh), and 25-year-old Tanya Soni (Telangana). This accident happened when rain water suddenly entered the library located in the basement, due to which this tragedy occurred. The basement was sealed after the incident and there were large scale demonstrations against the incident.

Court’s comments and investigation monitoring
Delhi High Court has termed the matter as “extremely serious” and has given time to the CBI to conduct a detailed investigation. Along with this, the court has also ordered CVC (Central Vigilance Commission) to monitor the investigation. Considering the seriousness of the case, the High Court has considered it a “rare case”, due to which the responsibility of investigation has been handed over to the CBI. The court also said that the next hearing in this case will be on November 18.
Court’s displeasure on MCD
The High Court has made strict comments on the working style of MCD. The court said that MCD has failed to implement despite several orders. Earlier also instructions were given to MCD, but they were not implemented properly. The court made it clear that such negligence is unacceptable and concrete steps need to be taken in this matter.
CBI investigation ordered
After the accident, the Delhi High Court, after hearing the arguments of all the parties, handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI. The court had also directed that a senior CVC officer would monitor the investigation to ensure a fair and thorough investigation.
