A woman has died due to Congo fever in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. After about five years, a case of Congo Fever (CCHF) has once again surfaced in Jodhpur. After receiving the report from Ahmedabad, the health department reached the residence of the deceased. Blood samples of nearby people and family members are being collected. Deputy CMHO Dr. Pritam Singh said that a 51-year-old woman, resident of Nandada Kalan in Jodhpur rural area, had fallen ill recently, and her family took her to Ahmedabad for treatment. He died there.
The family members brought the body to the village and performed the last rites. After receiving the investigation report of Congo Fever from Pune, samples are being collected from the area. Animals are also being examined. The deceased woman was associated with animal husbandry. People living with animals are at greater risk of Congo fever. A parasite called ‘Himoral’ which sticks to the skin of animals is the carrier of this disease. According to the World Health Organization, when infected with Congo fever, symptoms like pain in the muscles of the body, dizziness and headache, burning sensation in the eyes and fear of light are found along with the feeling of fever.
The first case of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) was reported in Jodhpur in 2014, in which a nursing staff working in a private hospital located on Residency Road got infected with Congo and died. After this, in 2019, symptoms were seen in three children. Also, two patients died in AIIMS. Now after five years, the case has come to light in Nandada village adjacent to Jodhpur, due to which the health department has been alerted.
