New Delhi. The condition of Ratan Tata, an eminent personality of Indian industry and honorary chairman of Tata Sons, is said to be critical. According to media reports, he has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Mumbai. News agency Reuters gave this information on Wednesday quoting two sources.
86-year-old Ratan Tata had recently issued a statement saying that he has been admitted to the hospital for routine medical check-up due to age-related health reasons. He had said that there is nothing to worry about his health and he is in good mood. However, now according to sources his condition has deteriorated and he has been shifted to ICU.
On Monday, Ratan Tata had refuted the rumors regarding his health through a post on social media. He had clearly stated that he was not seriously ill and requested people not to believe such rumours.
Ratan Tata’s contribution to Tata Group
Ratan Tata became chairman of Tata Sons in 1991 and led the group until 2012. During his tenure, the Tata Group achieved major achievements globally, prominent among which were the acquisitions of companies like Tetley, Corus and Jaguar Land Rover. Under his leadership, Tata Group transformed from a domestic company to an internationally recognized company.
During the tenure of Ratan Tata, Tata launched the world’s cheapest car, **Tata Nano**. He expanded Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and established it as a global IT leader. In 2012, Ratan Tata resigned as chairman of Tata Sons, but was made honorary chairman of the group’s key companies, including Tata Motors and Tata Steel.
