The saffron party has got only one seat out of the total ten from Muslim-dominated Ramban, Rajouri and Poonch districts. Apart from this, BJP had expressed confidence on Gujjar, Bakarwal and Pahari voters to win 35 out of total 43 seats in Jammu region, which could not live up to the expectations.
In the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, the National Conference-Congress alliance has not only crossed the clear majority mark by winning 48 seats but this alliance has also broken the back of the BJP, after which the saffron party has come into introspection mode. The BJP won a total of 29 seats in the Union Territory, its highest score till date, but missed its target of winning 35 seats from the Jammu region. Apart from this, the party had also planned to win 15 seats in Kashmir Valley including some independents and like-minded parties, which failed.
However, reacting to the election results, former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta said, “The people of Jammu have supported us and we thank them. We had set a target of winning 35 seats, but we fell a few seats short of achieving it.” Gupta said that these are all calculations. Still, we have emerged as a big party. He said that BJP will continue to work for development, peace and stability in Jammu and Kashmir. Gupta said that the party worked hard, but we could not succeed.
Ram Madhav, BJP’s election in-charge in Kashmir, said, “BJP won 29 seats in Jammu, which is its highest score so far. We got more than 25 percent votes, which is also the highest in Jammu and Kashmir.” He said the NC-Congress alliance got more seats in Kashmir but the Congress was completely rejected in Jammu. He could get only one seat Rajouri in Jammu. Madhav said that we will play the role of an effective opposition. Of course, we will analyze the results.

Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravinder Raina said, BJP has given its best performance in Jammu and Kashmir with 29 seats, which is the highest record. We express our gratitude to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially Jammu. Let us tell you that in August 2019, the Modi government at the Center had abolished Article 370 and ended the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and made it a Union Territory. Farooq Abdullah’s National Conference and Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP had called this move an attack on Kashmiri identity. These parties had termed this move as anti-Kashmir. It is noteworthy that a large population of Jammu was also against the removal of Article 370.
On the other hand, in BJP’s ‘New Kashmir’, there was more emphasis on security and continuous campaigns were conducted against terrorism, separatism and stone pelting. However, those sympathetic to the separatist sentiment described these steps as an attack on freedom of expression.
