Uttar Pradesh News Desk!!! Be it student politics or national politics, Mulayam Singh Yadav made such a mark for himself that no one could ignore him even as a fan. His formal entry into politics took place in the 70s, but in a very short time he reached the post of Chief Minister. There was a time when his name was also included in the race for the post of Prime Minister, however his dream remained unfulfilled. When did Mulayam Singh Yadav die: On his second death anniversary on 10th October, let us know how Mulayam Singh Yadav, who tried wrestling in the arena, defeated his rivals during his political career.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was born on 22 November 1939 in Saifai village of Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh to Murti Devi and Sughar Singh Yadav. His early education took place in his home district. Later he reached Etawah for further studies. In 1962, when the Student Union elections were announced for the first time, he also decided to contest the elections and became the President of the Student Union. It is said that he was fond of wrestling and used to stun his opponents with his tricks. It was during his student politics that he came in contact with his political guru Chaudhary Nathu Singh and after seeing his hard work, he received the blessings of the guru. A boy from a small village became an MLA at the age of 28. In the 1967 assembly elections, he was elected MLA from Jaswantnagar seat for the first time.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was among the leaders who were arrested during the Emergency. However, when the Emergency was lifted, he also became a minister in the Ramnaresh Yadav government of Uttar Pradesh. After this, in 1980 he was elected President of Lok Dal and in 1982 he was elected Leader of Opposition in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. In just a few years, he made his mark in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. He became Chief Minister for the first time in 1989. It was during his tenure that the Ram Mandir movement was at its peak. He ordered the police to open fire to control the crowd, in which many kar sevaks were killed. However, after this incident his government could not last long and the government fell on 24 January 1991. In 1992 he laid the foundation of Samajwadi Party.

He became the Chief Minister of the state for the second time in 1993 with the help of Kanshi Ram and Mayawati’s party BSP. But, this time also he could not complete his tenure and in 1995 the guest house scandal took place in Lucknow. After becoming CM twice, his stature kept increasing and now his steps started moving towards national politics. In 1996, he was elected MP from Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency. No one could get absolute majority in this election and then the third front came into existence. This time Mulayam Singh was in the role of kingmaker, but he could not become the Prime Minister and became the Defense Minister of the country. This government also fell and then Mulayam Singh Yadav continued doing politics in Lucknow and Delhi. In 2003, he became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the third time. This time his government lasted for full five years. The ‘son of the soil’, who practiced the politics of socialism, said goodbye to this world on 10 October 2022. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan (posthumously), India’s second highest civilian award, in 2023.
