Kolkata, October 12 (IANS). In August, doctors from various private hospitals in West Bengal and Kolkata’s R.G. Have decided to join the protest of junior doctors against the gruesome rape and murder of a junior resident doctor of Kar Medical College and Hospital.
A group of doctors associated with various private hospitals on Saturday reached the stage of fast unto death of eight junior doctors and announced that they will observe partial strike for 48 hours from Monday.
A doctor associated with a leading private hospital in Kolkata said, “The partial closure will start from 6 am on Monday and will continue till 6 am on Wednesday. During this period, only emergency medical services will be provided in these private hospitals. “
When asked whether the move would cause inconvenience to patients coming to these hospitals for treatment, he said that keeping in mind the larger public interest, they have decided to maintain emergency medical services in the state.
The doctor said, “This is not just a doctors’ movement. This movement is in the larger public interest. The protesting junior doctors have received public support. We want to assure those who have always stood with us that in any emergency In such circumstances, they will not be denied treatment.”
Doctors associated with the private hospital alleged that they had to make this announcement at a press conference held at a hotel in Esplanade.
A doctor said, “Though the hotel authorities had agreed to rent a hall for the press conference, they backed out at the time of paying the booking amount. We heard that due to police pressure, the hotel authorities So, we decided to make this announcement from the hunger strike site.”
This announcement was made by Indian Medical Association (IMA) national president R.V. The hunger strike on Friday came a day after Ashokan arrived in the state to meet the protesting doctors at the site. He said that the movement is not in personal interest but in the larger public interest.
