A pond made of tears of Lord Shiva.
In India, you will definitely find some temple in every district, every city and every village, but today we are going to talk about a temple located not in India but in Pakistan. This temple is not a common temple but a temple with beliefs related to Lord Shiva. The antiquity of the temple can also be estimated from the fact that stories related to the Mahabharata period can also be heard. This temple is located about 40 kilometers away from Chakwal village of Pakistan and about 280 kilometers away from Lahore.
Lord Shiva’s tears fell in memory of Mother Sati
The name of the temple of Pakistan we are talking about is Katasraj Temple. This temple is the main center of faith for Hindus. Every year Hindus go here for darshan and worship. It is believed that when Lord Shiva’s tears fell in the memory of Mother Sati, they fell at this place, after which a pond was formed here. There is a pond here, around which there are many temples, which are called Katasraj Temple.
There is a temple near the pond
According to mythology, Lord Shiva and Goddess Sati lived here. When Goddess Sati immolated herself after being insulted in a yagya organized by her own father, Lord Shiva was deeply hurt by this. It is believed that due to the crying of Lord Shiva, a pond was formed in Katasraj from his tears. It is also called Kataksha Kund. Katas means tears in the eyes. Today Katasraj temple is present around this pond.
Relation to Mahabharata period
It is believed that during the Mahabharata period, when the Pandavas went on exile after some defeat, they stayed here near the temple for a few days. It was here that when Draupadi felt thirsty, Pandavas went to get water from Kataksh Kund. At that time this pond was under the control of Yaksha. Yaksha asked questions to Pandavas, when 4 Pandavas drank the water of the pond without answering, they became unconscious. At last, when Yudhishthir saw his brothers unconscious, he gave correct answers to the Yaksha’s questions, after which the Yaksha cured all four Pandavas.
