Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
Ottawa: Amid tensions with Canada, India has recalled its High Commissioner and other diplomats from there, while India has expelled six Canadian diplomats in Delhi. Now Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s statement has come out on this tough stance of India. Trudeau said Canada fully respects India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and we expect the Indian government to do the same for Canada. It is my responsibility to protect the citizens of Canada.
Had a conversation with PM Modi: Trudeau
“I understand that many of you are angry, upset and frightened,” Trudeau said. It should not happen. Canada-India have a long history rooted in people-to-people ties, trade and business but we cannot tolerate what we are seeing now. When I spoke to PM Modi last weekend I stressed that there was going to be an incredibly important meeting between our National Security Advisors in Singapore this weekend. He knew about that meeting and so did I. Pressurized him that the meeting needs to be taken very seriously.
We do not want a fight with India: Trudeau
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau says this is not a choice Canada has chosen to create tension in Canada-India relations. India is an important democracy. India and Canada have historical trade relations. We have to stay together. We don’t want a fight. So at every step we have informed India of whatever we know.
Justin Trudeau issued official statement
Trudeau issued an official statement saying that Canada is a country based on the rule of law and the safety of our citizens is paramount. Trudeau once again alleged that Indian agents were involved in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
He said that in this regard we have shared our concerns with the Government of India and appealed to them to work with us on this important issue. The Canadian PM alleged that despite this, his investigating agencies were not cooperated.
