London: Indians have created their own identity in Britain. Among the Asian group, Indians are performing better than all ethnic groups including the British. When it comes to the percentage of people working in businesses, hourly wage rates, home ownership, employment or self-employment, it shows how prosperous the Indian community is. On comparison, it is found that the number of people from the Indian community living in rented houses is less than other communities here. 71 percent own their own homes and are the most socially empowered.
Indians are ahead
Indians have more friends in Britain than any other group. In terms of education, the Indian community is in second place with 95 percent, while the people of Chinese origin are in second place with 90 percent. In terms of jobs, people of the British Indian community are behind only the British people. Apart from this, the maximum number of people of Indian origin occupy the top posts in companies with about 49 percent.

The findings come in a new report, “A Portrait of Modern Britain”, published by Policy Exchange. The report described British Indians as “one of the most successful ethno-religious groups in modern Britain”. The Pakistani-Bangladeshi community has the lowest percentage of workers in occupations and the lowest hourly wage rates, the report said. Arab and Bangladeshi communities are most likely to be economically inactive.

The report describes a new group of ethnic minorities – MINTs, or “minorities in cities” – which are people moving from Britain’s towns to cities and villages. “MINTs are virtually owned by property-owning and business-minded British Indian families,” the report said. The report says that British Indians are also active in electoral politics and are playing a big role.

The report states that migrants are more connected to their countries of origin because of digital communication. This was the reason due to which conflict broke out in Leicester. The report has criticized the Hindu and Sikh manifestos brought before the last general elections. It said this was part of “blatantly communal electoral politics”. The report said that the pace of advancement of Britain’s white graduates is relatively slow. Whereas, the highly educated in some groups, such as Indian Hindus, are growing rapidly.
‘We should be taught to be proud of history’
The report also said that all ethnic minorities are proud to be British. Prefer to live in Britain compared to America, Germany and France. It says people feel “Britain has been a force for good in the world” and want to celebrate Britain’s achievements. Children growing up in Britain should be taught to be proud of its history.
