Kolkata, October 21 (IANS). The fast unto death of angry junior doctors continued for the 17th day on Monday after the incident of rape and murder of a female doctor at R.G.Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
Let us tell you that an important meeting of the delegation of protesters with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is going to be held this evening at the State Secretariat Nabanna.
However, the state government had earlier said that the hunger strike would have to be called off to attend the meeting. But the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front (WBJDF), which is leading the agitation on this issue, clearly said that they are not accepting this condition and their delegation will attend the meeting without calling off the hunger strike.
A total time of 45 minutes has been fixed for the meeting.
Sayantani Ghosh Hazra, one of the junior doctors who participated in the hunger strike from the first day, said the delegation would go to attend the meeting with the Chief Minister with a positive mindset.
She said, “I just want to say that except those on hunger strike, everyone else has returned to their medical service duties. So no one can say that medical services are being disrupted. So we hope that this Our demands on the issue will finally be met.”
At present a total of seven junior doctors are on hunger strike. Of these, seven are on the platform at Esplanade in central Kolkata and one is on the campus of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri in Darjeeling district.
So far, the health of six junior doctors taking part in the hunger strike that started on the evening of October 5 has deteriorated, so they have had to be admitted to the hospital.
The most controversial demand among the 10-point demands of the protesting junior doctors is the removal of State Health Secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam. However, during the phone conversation with junior doctors, the Chief Minister clearly said that it would not be possible to fulfill this demand from their side.
