Prayagraj. Karva Chauth fast, which removes negativity and infuses mental and spiritual positive energy, will be observed by married women on Sunday by fasting for happiness, peace in their married life and longevity of their husbands. Karva Chauth festival, celebrated on the Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month, expresses the feeling of devotion towards the husband.
It reflects the harmony and warmth of the relationship between husband and wife and even modernity has not been able to shake this tradition. More sensitivity, dedication and expression of love are being reflected in this. On this day, married women observe fast for Maa Gauri for their good fortune by remaining fasting for the whole day and after worshiping, they break the fast by drinking a sip of water from the husband’s hand.
Dr. Kumud Dubey, senior scientist of Prayagraj Forest Research Centre, said that she is a scientist first and an Indian woman, who tries to follow traditions as much as possible. We should hold firmly to our ancient traditions and values. If we distance ourselves from it in the name of modernity, then we will be cut off from our roots and our existence will cease to exist. Some Indian women, dressed in the garb of modernity and chasing western culture, are forgetting old traditions in the name of conservatism.
He told that in the changing environment, Karva Chauth fast has also become globalized. Now this festival is celebrated with great pomp not only in the country but also in developed countries like America, Canada, Singapore, Dubai and other places where Indians live. In many other states of India including Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, everyone from rural women to modern women observe this fast of Indian tradition. She told that her sister-in-law, who lives in London, observes this fast with great devotion and enthusiasm along with her friends.
Dr. Dubey told that earlier there was not so much publicity about Karva Chauth fast. It has been celebrated in a very simple manner. In the modern era, cinema and TV serials have further promoted this fast. Some women are adopting this fast after watching TV serials. Although this fast is for married women, nowadays some unmarried girls also observe this fast in order to get the desired husband.
He told that this fast is a divine bond between husband and wife bound by the thread of trust, love and purity. It provides a feeling of bonding, comfort, belonging and security. Karva Chauth is celebrated with the wish to keep this bond unbroken. It strengthens mutual love and trust.
In the changing environment, along with the wife, husbands have also started observing Karva Chauth fast for their successful married life. Despite modernity, there has been no decline in women in observing this fast, rather the attraction has increased. It has got more strength from TV serials and films. Apart from the spirit, Karva Chauth has also become synonymous with creativity and modernity.
Dr. Dubey told that Karva Chauth fast connects us with our culture. If the newly married woman observes this fast then she gets an opportunity to understand the traditional old customs and rituals. This fast infuses mental positive energy in them. This fast also provides spiritual and emotional strength. It brings closer to God and makes one experience inner peace. Meditation and prayer during fasting provides mental peace. Apart from this, it also enhances love and unity among family members. On this day, women sit together and prepare for the fast which strengthens family bonds and gives a feeling of togetherness.
Dr. Dubey explained that if considered at an intellectual level, the cultural heritage of a society is the culmination of its values, traditions and shared experiences, which foster a sense of unity and purpose. The unity of India is deeply rooted in its culture. The center of Indian culture is Hinduism, which is not just a religion but a comprehensive way of life. The ethos of Indian culture is aligned with the principles of Hinduism and its core philosophy of coexistence and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
