Kader Khan (English: Kader Khan, born – October 22, 1935 – death – December 31, 2018) is known as a multidimensional artist in the Indian cinema world, who has worked as a co-hero, dialogue writer, villain, comedian and character. Made his mark among the audience as an actor. Kader Khan, who has given life to every character from villain to comedian, has worked in more than 300 films till now, but his talent does not stop here. He has proved his mettle in that direction also by writing dialogues for more than 80 popular films. One specialty of Kader Khan’s acting is that he is suitable for any kind of role. Be it the role of a ‘cruel villain’ in the films ‘Coolie’ and ‘Vardi’ or the soulful acting in the films ‘Karz Chukna Hai’, ‘Jaisi Karni Vaise Bharni’ or ‘Baap Nambari Beta Dus Nambari’ and ‘Pyaar Ka Devta’. In films like comedy acting, all these characters have no answer to him.

Kader Khan was born on October 22, 1935 in Balochistan, which is now part of Pakistan. After the partition of India and Pakistan, his family settled in India. Kader Khan completed his post-graduation from Osmania University. After this he decided to establish an institute for training in Arabic language. Kader Khan started his career as a teacher. Once Kader Khan got a chance to act in the annual function being held in the college. At this function, actor Dilip Kumar was impressed by Kader Khan’s acting and offered him to work in his film ‘Sagina’. This is why a teacher, a dialogue writer and an actor reside together in Kader.[1]

Great actor Dilip Kumar offered Kader Khan to work in his film ‘Sagina’. Even after the film ‘Sagina’ released in 1974, Kader Khan had to struggle a lot. During this period, his films like ‘Dil Deewana’, ‘Benaam’, ‘Umar Kaid’, ‘Anari’ and Bairaag were released. But he did not get much benefit from these films. In the year 1977, Kader Khan’s films like ‘Khoon Pasina’ and ‘Parvarish’ were released. Through these films he was successful in making his mark to some extent.

After the success of the films ‘Khoon Pasina’ and ‘Parvarish’, Kader Khan started getting offers for many good films. Which included big budget films like Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Mr. Natwarlal, Suhaag, Abdullah, Do Aur Do Paanch, Lootmaar, Qurbani, Yaarana, Bulandi and Naseeb. After the success of these films, Kader Khan touched new heights of success and established himself as a villain in the film industry. The film ‘Coolie’, released in the year 1983, is counted among the superhit films of Kader Khan’s career. Amitabh Bachchan played the lead role in this film made under the banner of Manmohan Desai. The film proved to be a superhit at the ticket window. With this, Kader Khan joined the list of top villains of the film industry. The film ‘Baap Nambari Beta Dus Nambari’, released in the year 1990, is one of the important films of Kader Khan’s cine career. In this film, Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor played the role of father and son who cheat others by becoming thugs. Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor made the audience laugh with their actions in the film. Kader Khan was also honored with the Filmfare Award for his strong acting in the film.

In the nineties, Kader Khan also changed his roles to avoid uniformity in his acting and to establish himself as a character actor. In this sequence, he embodied the role of underworld don Jahangir Khan on the silver screen in the film ‘Angaar’ released in 1992. In the last years of the decade, Kader Khan’s films as a villain did not get the expected success. After this Kader Khan also started working as a comedian. In this sequence, her role with actor Govinda in the film ‘Dulhe Raja’, released in 1998, was greatly appreciated by the audience.

Kader Khan has acted in about 300 films in his film career. His starring films include Mukti, Jwalamukhi, Meri Awaaz Suno, Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai, Sanam Teri Kasam, Naukar Bibi Ka, Sharara, Qaidi, Ghar Ek Mandir, Gangwa, Jaan Jani Janardan, Ghar Dwar, Tabaif, Paatal Bhairavi, Insaaf Ki Awaaz. , Beautiful from Heaven, Protector of the Country, Selfish, Bloody Demand, Aankhen, Chess, Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Twins, Bade Miyan, Chote Miyan, Dulhe Raja, Raja Babu, Trickster, Hasina Maan Jayegi, Funtoosh etc.

In Kader Khan’s cine career, her pairing with actor Shakti Kapoor was much liked. These two actors have worked together in about 100 films so far. Some of the important films with their pairing are – Baap Numberi Beta Dus Numberi, Naseeb, Lootmar, Himmatwala, Mahaan, Hasit, Justice Choudhary, Aklamand, Maksad, Mawali, Tohfa, Inquilab, Qaidi, Arrest, Ghar Sansar, Dharma Adhikari. , Sinhasan, Icing on the cake, Masterji, Enemy of humanity, Voice of time, Jaise karni waise bharni, Dancers and singers, Raja Babu etc.[1]

Kader Khan has also worked as a dialogue writer in many films. These include Khel Khel Mein, Rafuchakkar, Dharamveer, Amar Akbar Anthony, Khoon Pasina, Parvarish, Shalimar, Mukhdar Ka Sikandar, Mr. Natwarlal, Suhaag, Yaarana, Laawaris, Satte Pe Satta, Desh Premi, Sanam Teri Kasam, Dharamkanta, Coolie, Sharabi, Superhit films like Arrest, Karma, Khoon Bhari Maang, Hatiya, Hum, Coolie Number One, Saajan Chale Sasural are included.

Kader Khan’s wish of making a film with Amitabh Bachchan has not been fulfilled yet. Actors Kader Khan and Amitabh Bachchan did many films together. Both of them worked together in very successful films like Adalat, Suhaag, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Naseeb and Coolie. Apart from this, Kader Khan also wrote dialogues for films like Amar Akbar Anthony, Satte Pe Satta and Sharabi, but Kader Khan himself wanted to make a film with Amitabh Bachchan and his wish could not be fulfilled till now. Kader told this in a special conversation. He said, I wanted to make the film ‘Jahil’ with Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Prada and Amrish Puri. I wanted to direct it myself but perhaps God had something else in mind. Kader Khan told that soon after this, Amitabh Bachchan suffered a severe injury during the shooting of the film ‘Coolie’ and then he remained hospitalized for months. After Amitabh came back from the hospital, Kader Khan became very busy with his other films and here Amitabh Bachchan got into politics. After that, this film with Kader Khan and Amitabh’s Jugalbandi got canned forever. Praising Amitabh, Kader Khan says, he is a complete artist, Allah has blessed him with good voice, good tongue, good height and speaking eyes.

Kader Khan has been away from films for a few years. Explaining the reason for this, he says, films have also changed with time. Now I don’t find myself fit in such times. It is not possible for me to change myself with the changing times, so I distanced myself from films. Kader Khan also said that the present day artists do not have a command over the language and this makes him sad. In the 70s, the dialogues written by Kader Khan in some of Amitabh Bachchan’s films like Suhaag, Amar Akbar Anthony and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar became very famous, but Kader Khan is sad that in those films, the hero was living in the city of Mumbai. The same language used became the main language of the later films and then gradually under its guise the language of the films started deteriorating. He also places some blame on himself. Kader Khan also did many films with Jeetendra, Mithun in the 80s and Govinda in the 90s. He becomes emotional remembering his times. According to him, he fondly remembers his many films with Asrani, Shakti Kapoor, Govinda, Jeetendra and Aruna Irani and the time he spent with these artists. Kader Khan said that he is especially a big fan of Asrani, with whom he has done many films. At present Kader Khan is busy with his sons’ theater group and their plays. His sons Sarfaraz Khan and Shahnawaz Khan are staging two plays written by their father. The names of these plays are Meherbaan Kaise-Kaise and Local Train. Both these plays are political satires.[2]

Kader Khan’s son Sarfaraz said, ‘My father left us. He died at 6 pm (Canadian time) on December 31 after a prolonged illness. He went into coma in the afternoon. He was hospitalized for the last 16-17 weeks. 81 year old Kader Khan was ill for a long time. He was admitted to a hospital in Canada. His son told that the actor’s last rites will also be performed there.[3]

Filmfare Award for Best Comedian (Film- Baap Nambari Beta Dus Nambari) Kader Khan has received the Filmfare Award for Best Comedian in 1991 and Best Supporting Role in 2004. In 2013, Kader Khan was awarded the Sahitya Shiromani Award for his contribution to films.
