14 farmers have been arrested for burning stubble in Kaithal district of Haryana. A police officer gave this information on Monday. Pollution has increased in the capital Delhi and surrounding areas in the last few days. Meanwhile this action has been taken. The police officer said that this action was taken if the farmers did not agree even after the ban on stubble burning. Such action has also taken place in some other districts including Hisar of Haryana. Burning of crop residues by farmers in Haryana and Punjab is blamed for the increase in pollution in Delhi. A total of cases have been registered against 123 farmers in Kaithal.
It is said that every year after the paddy crop is harvested, farmers burn the stubble. The level of air pollution increases due to the smoke emanating from it. Generally, every year in the months of October and November, complaints of increasing pollution start coming in Delhi. This time too the matter has reached the Supreme Court and the court has ordered the governments of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi to curb pollution. Kaithal DSP Birbhan said that in the last few days, 14 farmers have been arrested for burning stubble. However, these people were released on bail.
A case has been registered against these people under the Prevention of Pollution Act. Cases have also been filed against many farmers in Panipat and Yamunanagar districts. Haryana Chief Secretary TVSN had ordered the Deputy Commissioners on Sunday itself to control the cases of stubble burning. Let us tell you that in the hearing held last week, the Supreme Court had reprimanded the governments of Haryana and Punjab and said that you have to stop burning stubble. Apart from this, if the farmers do not agree then action should be taken against them.
The court had also issued summons to the chief secretaries of both the states and asked them for an explanation on October 23. Justice Abhay S. Oka, Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and A. George Masih’s bench had said that both the states are completely insensitive. They are not working on the orders given to them regarding pollution. This is wrong and they will have to take action against the violators. Action has been taken only after this strict order of the court. Farmers say that there is very little difference between harvesting of paddy and sowing of wheat. In such a situation, to clear the field quickly, they burn the stubble many times. It is easy and cheap.
