Jammu and Kashmir became a full state, Omar cabinet gave its approval in the first meeting itself.

In the first cabinet meeting itself, Omar Abdullah’s cabinet has approved the proposal to make Jammu and Kashmir a full state. According to the information, he may soon meet PM Modi regarding this draft.

In its first cabinet meeting in Srinagar, Omar Abdullah’s cabinet has passed the proposal to make Jammu and Kashmir a full state. He called the first cabinet meeting at the Civil Secretariat on Thursday. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Chaudhary, Ministers Sakina Itu, Javed Ahmed Rana, Javed Ahmed Dar and Satish Sharma attended this meeting.

Sources close to the National Conference said that the proposal for full statehood was passed in the first cabinet meeting itself, but till now no statement has been given by the government or the National Conference on this. National Conference’s chief spokesperson Tanveer Sadiq has also neither confirmed nor denied this information.

Omar Abdullah has already said that he wants to pass the proposal to make Jammu and Kashmir a full-fledged state in the first session of the Assembly itself. He had said, we want that the proposal for creating a full-fledged state should be passed in the very first session and then the Chief Minister himself should go to Delhi with this proposal and talk to the top leaders of the country and remind them to fulfill their promise.

Tanveer said, the Prime Minister, Home Minister and others had promised that Jammu and Kashmir would be made a full state. Now he should fulfill his promise. It is also being said in the reports that in the next two days, Omar Abdullah himself will meet PM Narendra Modi regarding this draft and hand over the draft to him. The Central Government had removed Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir on 5 August 2019. After this the state was divided into two union territories.

After getting the proposal approved by the Omar Cabinet, it will now be sent to the Central Government through the Lieutenant Governor. The Central Government has the right to make changes in the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act. This proposal should be approved in the Parliament to give full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. After this it will be sent to the President.
