Balraj Bhalla (English: Balraj Bhalla; born- June 10, 1888, Punjab; died- October 26, 1956) was one of the famous revolutionaries of India. His father Mahatma Hansraj was a famous educationist and ‘D. A. He was the first Principal of ‘V. College’, Lahore. Balraj Bhalla was very adventurous and was always ready to take risks. In the last days of his life he became a follower of Gandhiji.
Revolutionary Balraj Bhalla was born on June 10, 1888 in Gujranwala district of Punjab. Mahatma Hansraj was his father, who was a famous educationist and ‘D.A.V. College’, Lahore. Balraj Bhalla did M.A. in 1911 AD. He had passed the B.Sc. examination, but due to the influence of Rash Behari Bose and Khudiram Bose etc., he joined the revolutionary movement at an early age. Because of this his university degrees were withdrawn. Balraj was very courageous and was ready to take the biggest risk. He believed that there was no harm in killing some representatives of imperialism or looting government banks in order to serve the sacred cause of independence. In 1919, Balraj Bhalla was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on the charge of throwing a bomb on the Viceroy’s vehicle. He was also tried in the second ‘Lahore Conspiracy Case’ and was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment. Balraj Bhalla was a follower of India’s famous revolutionary Lala Lajpat Rai. Balraj Bhalla once secretly traveled to Germany to seek support for his work. In the last days of his life, Balraj Bhalla had lost faith in political violence and became a follower of the non-violent path of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Balraj Bhalla died on October 26, 1956.
