Atul Prasad Sen (English: Atul Prasad Sen, born October 28, 1871, East Bengal; died August 26, 1934, Lucknow) was a famous jurist, lover of education, creator and famous poet and musician of Bengali language. He was counted among the top lawyers of the country. He was the editor of ‘Awadh Weekly Notes’ and Bengali monthly ‘Uttara’. The patriotic and devotional songs composed by him have a place of great respect in the field of Bengali music.
Tul Prasad Sen was born on October 28, 1871 in Narayanganj sub division of East Bengal. After receiving education in Kolkata, he went to England to study law. After completing his education in 1895, he practiced law in Kolkata for a few days and then made Lucknow his workplace.
Atul Prasad was counted among the top lawyers. He also took full interest in public works. He was also one of the founders of Lucknow University and remained associated with that institution throughout his life. He also participated in the work of ‘Harijan Upadhyay’ promoted by Gandhiji. He was always there to help during natural disasters. He had close relations with many prominent people of the country like Rabindranath Tagore, Gandhiji, Motilal Nehru, Mahamana Malviya, Lala Lajpat Rai, Swami Vivekananda etc.
Atul Prasad Sen started the publication of ‘Allahabad Law General’. He was also the editor of ‘Awadh Weekly Notes’ and Bengali monthly ‘Uttara’. Impressed by Gopal Krishna Gokhale’s service to the country, Atul Prasad Sen became a member of his organization ‘Servants of India Society’. From political point of view, Sen of liberal ideas was a supporter of complete independence of the country.
He was also a famous poet and musician of Bengali language. The patriotic and devotional songs composed by him have a place of great respect in the field of Bengali music.
Atul Prasad Sen died on August 26, 1934 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. ‘AP Sen Road’ named after him in Lucknow still reminds him of him.
