A youth was beaten to death and another seriously injured by a mob in Gujarat’s Vadodara city on suspicion of being a thief. Three policemen were also injured while trying to intervene during the attack near a police station in Varasia area.
A 30-year-old man was attacked by a mob on suspicion of being a thief in Gujarat’s Vadodara city, killing him and injuring another, police said on Saturday. Three policemen were also injured while trying to intervene during the attack that took place near a police station in Varasia area around midnight, DCP Panna Momaya said.
He said that the local people caught three people when they were trying to flee the area. The officer said the trio had come to the area on a stolen two-wheeler and were allegedly roaming with the intention of committing theft.
The officer said three people were riding a stolen motorcycle. They parked the motorcycle and walked together. When some people asked them what they were doing there at this time of night, they tried to run away. The mob caught two of them and beat them up.
The DCP said that the incident happened near a police station. Policemen ran to stop the crowd. Three policemen were injured while trying to intervene. Both of them, injured after being beaten by the mob, were taken to a government hospital, where Shahbaz Pathan (30) was declared dead, while Akram Tiliawada (20) is undergoing treatment.
The officer said there were ten theft cases registered against Pathan, while seven cases were registered against Tiliawada. He was also booked under the Gujarat Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act and detained. He said the third person, Shahid Shaikh, had three cases registered against him and was also booked under PASA. The devices were recovered from his possession. Even the two-wheeler they were riding on was stolen.
