Jerusalem/Beirut, November 4 (IANS). Israel claimed on Sunday that its forces had killed two “prominent” Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon who were responsible for firing rockets at northern Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it “attacked and killed Hezbollah commander Farouk Amin Alassi of the Khiyam area and Radwan Force company commander Yusuf Ahmed Noun in the Khiyam area”.
The IDF reported that Alassi was responsible for “numerous anti-tank missile and rocket attacks on Israeli communities in the Galilee panhandle and especially in Metula”, and Noon “on Israeli communities in the Galilee region and on IDF soldiers operating in the area with rocket and rocket attacks.” Was responsible for “anti-tank missile attacks”.
Lebanese defense sources told Xinhua news agency on condition of anonymity that an Israeli warplane fired four air-to-ground missiles at a two-story building in the south-eastern Lebanese city of Khiam, killing two Hezbollah soldiers. The officers were killed and the house was destroyed.
Sources said the attack was part of a larger military operation by the Israeli army in Khiyam, the main stronghold of Hezbollah. “With the entry of Israeli forces into Khiyam, it has reached the deepest point of its ground campaign,” he said.
Hezbollah has not yet commented on the incident.
Earlier this month, Israel crossed its northern border and launched a ground operation in Lebanon.
