Indian diplomats had come to this camp to give life certificates to pensioners of Indian origin. The camp was set up to help about one thousand people. Life certificate is required by those elders who are pensioners and are living with their children in Canada after retirement. These elderly people have to submit their life certificate every year to continue their pension. As soon as the news of the camp was received, Khalistan supporters announced a protest outside the temple. Brampton police also gave permission to Khalistanis to protest right in front of the temple. Initially there was only sloganeering but as soon as some people reached the consular camp to get life certificates made, Khalistanis armed with sticks attacked them.
They started beating Hindus at the gate of the temple itself. When Hindus protested against this, a violent mob of Khalistanis entered the temple, beating them. The commotion continued inside the temple for a long time. Hindus started snatching flags from Khalistani attackers. Some people brought the Indian tricolor. He challenged the Khalistani attackers. The Khalistanis mob entered the temple premises and kept beating the Hindus and the police kept stopping only the Hindus. The person seen in the video raising slogans with a flag in his hand is a sergeant in the Brampton area police force. His name is Harinder Sohi. Harinder Sohi was in civil dress with the Khalistanis who attacked the temple. He was carrying the flag of Khalistan and raising slogans against the Indian government. In fact, Hindu organizations were already afraid of such an attack because before Diwali, Khalistani militant Gurpatwant Singh Pannu had threatened that he would not allow any Hindu to use fireworks or burst crackers in Punjab.
