Usha Uthup (English: Usha Uthup, born 8 November 1947) is an Indian indie-pop and playback singer. She is a famous playback singer of the sixties and seventies. He is famous in Hindi cinema for the song ‘Darling’ from the film ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’. She was awarded the Filmfare Best Singer Award for this song. Usha Uthup has been honored with Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in the year 2024. Earlier in the year 2011, he was awarded Padma Shri. Usha Uthup was born on 7 November 1947 in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), Maharashtra. His father’s name is Vaidyanath Someshwar Sami. He belongs to Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Usha Uthup did her early education from St. Agnes High School. When she was in school, she was thrown out of music class because of her high-pitched voice. But his music teacher gave him music lessons. Although he never received music education from outside, he was brought up in a musical environment, due to which he had such an understanding of music. Usha Uthup is married to Mr. Jani Uthup. They have a son Sunny and daughter Anjali. Currently Usha Uthup is a resident of Kolkata.
Usha Uthup is an inspiration for the people. He started his singing career by singing songs in hotels. When she was 20 years old, she started singing in a saree in a small night club named James located on Mount Road, Chennai. At the same time, the owner of the night club had put Usha on a trial period of one week. After this, Usha also sang in ‘Talk of the Town’ of Mumbai and ‘Trinkas’ club of Kolkata. After this he got a chance to sing at Oberoi Hotel in Delhi.[2] Usha Uthup was given her first break by actor Shashi Kapoor. Usha met him at Oberoi Hotel in Delhi. There Shashi Kapoor was so impressed by his singing that he gave him a chance to sing in the film.
Usha Uthup has acted in films like ‘Shalimar’, ‘Shaan, Vardaat’, ‘Armaan’, ‘Disco Dancer’, ‘Pyaara Dushman’, ‘Armaan’, ‘Daud’, ‘Bhoot’, ‘Joggers Park’ and ‘Hat-trick’. Sung songs which were liked a lot. Sung songs in English in the film ‘Bombay Talkies’ released in 1970. Usha sang the song ‘Dum Maro Dum’ with Asha Bhosle in the film ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’. After which he got a chance to sing in many films. Of course, some people may have been making fun of Usha Uthup’s voice, but she has proved herself on the basis of her talent. Usha Uthup has sung songs in about 8 foreign and 17 Indian languages.
Usha Uthup performed her stage show at the age of just nine. His sister, who was also promoting herself in the world of music, introduced him to the most famous RJ of that time, Amin Sayani. He gave Usha Uthup a chance to sing in a radio singing show. During that time he sang the song Mockingbird Hill, which the audience liked very much. After that his singing career in radio shows continued. Usha Uthup started her film career in the seventies. He got success in Hindi cinema with the song ‘Ek Do Teen Cha Cha’ from the film ‘Shalimar’. After that he sang many great songs in Hindi cinema. During that time, he worked with veteran Hindi cinema music director R. D. Burman sang many hit songs with Bappi Lahiri. He gave superhit songs like ‘Dum Maaro Dum’ and ‘Mehbooba’ to Hindi cinema, which are still on the lips of the audience.
Usha Uthup started her TV career with Doordarshan’s TV show ‘Bharat Ki Shaan-Shining Star’. She was seen as a judge in this show. Apart from this, she has also been seen as the chief guest in the Marathi singing reality show ‘Gaurav Maharashtracha’.
