Getting digital life certificate is not easy for Indian elders, they are facing many problems.

Getting digital life certificate is not easy for Indian elders, they are facing many problems.

New Delhi, November 9 (IANS). 61-year-old Sarita Devi does not use a smartphone. Applying online for Digital Life Certificate has become a big problem for them. Because Sarita Devi uses a feature phone, she does not have the facility to download the Jeevan Praman app. Whereas, to get a digital life certificate, downloading the government application on the phone is an essential condition.

Similarly, 65-year-old Kishan Kumar also faced a similar problem at a digital life certificate center in the national capital. Since his son’s smartphone is registered with the National Pension System, the OTP comes to his son’s number, who currently lives in another city. Without OTP, the process of getting the Digital Life Certificate is not completed and they also return home empty handed.

Shanti Verma, an 80-year-old widow, chose to go to the Common Service Center (CSC) despite her advanced age as she had no one to help her. Shanti Verma was stunned while filling the form when she was asked if she was married twice.

The list of such elders is very long, who are not yet a part of the digital and connected ecosystem.

From November 1, the government has launched the third and largest ever Digital Life Certificate (DLC) campaign across the country to promote digital empowerment of pensioners using facial recognition technology.

According to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, more than 1.8 lakh pensioners made their DLCs on the very first day.

Although digitization has helped many pensioners to easily obtain their life certificate, it remains a challenge for those who lack digital skills and are not aware of the digital mechanisms.

To access the DLC, the pensioner will have to use the smartphone camera and undergo a facial scan to help in authentication. Aadhaar biometric authentication performs facial, finger and IRIS authentication through apps like Jeevan Pramaan and Aadhaar Face RD app.

One can also visit the nearest CSC or pension disbursing banks, post offices or designated government offices to obtain the DLC.

DLC Campaign 3.0 will be run from November 1 to 30 in 800 cities or districts across India. A statement issued by the Ministry of Personnel said, “This is the biggest DLC campaign ever.”
