Ram Singh Pathania (English: Ram Singh Pathania, born- 10 April, 1824; died- 11 November, 1849) was one of the Indian freedom fighters. He was a fighter who fought against the British. He, along with a handful of companions, shook the foundation of the English Empire. At that time Ram Singh Pathania was only 24 years old.
Ram Singh Pathania was born on April 10, 1824 in the house of Shyam Singh, minister of the princely state of Nurpur. His father was the minister of Raja Veer Singh in the princely state of Nurpur. Due to the Anglo-Sikh treaty in 1846, most of the princely states of Himachal Pradesh came under the British Empire. At the same time Raja Veer Singh died. At that time his son Javsant Singh was the heir to the throne. The British took all the rights of Jaswant Singh for five thousand rupees and announced to merge the princely state with their rule, which was not acceptable to Veer Singh Pathania. Veer Singh Pathania formed an army with Katoch Rajputs and attacked the British. The British ran away from this attack and Ram Singh waved his flag. Pleased with this, Jaswant Singh appointed himself king and made Ram Singh Pathania his minister. After this he made a plan to oust all the British from Himachal and achieved victory.[1]
The British also knew that they could not easily arrest or kill Ram Singh. In such a situation, they hatched a conspiracy and when Ram Singh Pathania was performing puja, he was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment and sent to Kalapani. After that he was sent to Rangoon and he was tortured a lot. On November 11, 1849, at the age of just 24, Ram Singh Pathania attained martyrdom.
