Washington: After registering a historic victory in the US presidential elections, Donald Trump has started selecting his cabinet officials one by one. In this series, Trump has chosen for the director of America’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), a former intelligence officer, whose name is among America’s top spies and who is called a “hawk” for China.
For this, Trump has chosen his closest aide John Ratcliffe, who was also the Director of National Intelligence at the end of his first term. Let us tell you that Ratcliffe served as the country’s top spy from late May 2020 until Trump left office in January 2021. Most recently he is co-chair of the Center for American Security, a think tank advocating Trump’s positions. Apart from this, Ratcliffe also advised the former Republican President on national security policies during his 2024 campaign. Trump said, “I hope that John will be the first person to serve in both of our nation’s highest intelligence positions. Ratcliffe is a former intelligence officer
Ratcliffe is a former US intelligence director and was Trump’s most trusted confidant. He worked during Trump’s first term. Ratcliffe, a former member of the House of Representatives, promised at his confirmation hearing to become DNI in May 2020 that he would provide “objective and timely intelligence” in the position. He also said he would keep a close eye on other issues such as Iran’s military, North Korea’s nuclear weapons program and foreign interference in the US elections. When Ratcliffe was confirmed as DNI by the Republican-majority Senate in 2020, all Democratic senators voted against his nomination, citing his lack of experience and partisanship.
Ratcliffe is called a hawk for China
Ratcliffe is said to be a hawk for America’s rival China. Eagle is the most attacking bird. Recently, Ratcliffe also criticized President Joe Biden’s policies in the Middle East. In an article published in June 2023, he argued that Biden’s threat to halt arms shipments to Israel over military actions in Gaza put a key ally in danger. He also argued that the administration was not tough enough on Iran. Ratcliffe also established himself as a China hawk during his tenure as DNI. In a December 2020 article in the Wall Street Journal, Ratcliffe wrote, “The intelligence is clear: Beijing intends to dominate the US and the rest of the planet economically, militarily and technologically.” (Reuters)
