Nirmala Thakur (English: Nirmala Thakur; born- 1942, Azamgarh district, Uttar Pradesh; died- November 20, 2014, Allahabad) was a famous poet of India. His poems were continuously published in major newspapers and magazines of the country. She had a love marriage with the famous storyteller Doodhnath Singh. In the year 2005, Nirmala Thakur’s poetry collection ‘Kai Roop-Kai Rang’ and in 2014 ‘Laughing Girl’ were published from ‘Radhakrishna Prakashan’.
Nirmala Thakur was born in 1942 AD in a village named ‘Mahui’ in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh. Nirmala ji was the sister of the famous critic Malayaj. He had the company of Malayaj and Shamsher Singh since childhood. He did M.A. in Hindi from ‘Allahabad University’. degree. After completing her education, Nirmala Thakur started working as a program executive in ‘Akashvani Allahabad’. She retired from here as Assistant Center Director in the year 2002. In 1963, after rebelling against her family, Nirmala Thakur had a love marriage with story writer Doodhnath Singh.
Nirmala Thakur, a postgraduate from ‘Allahabad University’, started writing poetry in the year 1960. His poems were continuously published in the major magazines of that period, ‘Nai Kavita’, ‘Dharmyug’, ‘Lahar’, ‘Kalpana’, ‘Yugvani’, ‘Jhankar’ and ‘Kriti’ etc. In 2005, his poetry collection ‘Kayi Roop-Kayi Rang’ and in 2014 ‘Laughing Girl’ were published from ‘Radhakrishna Prakashan’.
Nirmala Thakur had become an arthritis patient in her last days. Even after all the treatments, there was no improvement, but with time other diseases overtook him. Nirmala Thakur died on 20 November 2014 at her residence in Jhunsi (Allahabad). Nirmala Thakur’s liveliness, hospitality and cooperative attitude had made her famous in the literary world.
