Russian Plane Fire in Turkey (symbolic photo)
Ankara: The engine of a Russian plane caught fire after landing at Antalya airport in southern Turkey. There were 95 people on board the plane. Giving information, Turkey’s Transport Ministry said that all the passengers and crew members have been evacuated safely. The ministry said in a statement that the ‘Sukhoi Superjet 100’ class aircraft operated by Russian aviation company ‘Azimuth Airlines’ had taken off from Sochi, Russia on Sunday and was carrying 89 passengers and six crew members.
The cause of the fire is not known
According to the statement, after the plane landed at Antalya Airport at 9:34 pm local time, the pilot reported an engine fire, after which the airport rescue and fire brigade immediately worked to extinguish the fire. The statement said no one was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire could not be immediately known.
Video surfaced
A video of the incident posted by aviation news website ‘Airport Haber’ shows flames coming out from the left side of the plane as emergency crews extinguish the fire. In the video, passengers can be seen exiting the plane through the emergency door, some of whom are seen leaving the plane with their luggage.
air traffic affected
The Transport Ministry said efforts were underway to remove the plane from the runway. Arrivals of aircraft at the airport have been temporarily suspended, while departures are taking place from the military-run runway. (AP)
