Khan Younis (Gaza Strip): Even after the death of hundreds of top commanders including Hamas chief Ismail Haniya and Yahya Sinwar, Israel’s havoc continues on Gaza. At least 21 people living in a camp for displaced Palestinians in southern Gaza were killed on Wednesday in fierce Israeli air strikes in the last 24 hours. The Israeli military said it targeted top Hamas militants “involved in terrorist activities” in the area. However, the Israeli military did not provide any additional information and said that it took utmost care to ensure that there were no civilian casualties in the attack.
The attack on the Muwasi tent camp was one of several deadly attacks in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday. Israeli strikes in central Gaza have killed at least 10 more people, including four children, according to Palestinian doctors. There is no sign of an end to Israel’s devastating war in Gaza, which has been going on for nearly 14 months following Hamas’ October 2023 attack. Hamas still holds many Israeli civilians hostage and much of Gaza’s population has been displaced and dependent on international food aid for survival.
More than 28 people injured
At least 28 people were wounded in Wednesday’s attack in Muwasi, according to Atif al-Hout, director of Nasser Hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis. There are few public services in Muwasi and where millions of displaced people live. An Associated Press (AP) journalist present at the hospital saw at least 15 bodies. Shortly after the attack, Al-Awda Hospital said two people were killed and 38 were wounded in an attack on a residential block in the Nusrat refugee camp. The army had no immediate comment on the attack, but said earlier strikes in central Gaza had targeted “terrorist positions”. (AP)
