During the screening of the film 'The Sabarmati Report' in JNU, the atmosphere heated up after stone pelting.

New Delhi. Vikrant Massey, Raashi Khanna and Riddha Dogra starrer film ‘The Sabarmati Report’ has been in controversies and discussions since its release. The film, released on November 15, sparked deep debate on political and social issues. The film is based on the 2002 Godhra incident and the subsequent riots in Gujarat. A special screening of the film was organized at Delhi’s famous Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Thursday. During this time there was a huge ruckus among the students. The altercation between the Left and students associated with ABVP escalated so much that it even reached the point of stone pelting.

Uproar and stone pelting during screening

The atmosphere suddenly became heated during the screening of the film. Some students protesting against the screening started pelting stones, due to which the program was disrupted. After this there were clashes between two groups of students. Students associated with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) made serious allegations against the students of Left parties. ABVP students say that leftist groups often hold such protests and try to disturb peace.

Controversy regarding the film ‘The Sabarmati Report’

Directed by director Dheeraj Sharma, this film has created a stir in cinema and political circles since its release on November 15.
The story of the film shows the circumstances after the Godhra incident and the horrors of the riots. Many sensitive issues have been raised in the film, which raise questions on various aspects of society and politics. However, the film did not receive much praise from critics. Many critics described it as below average, but it continued to be in the news due to controversies and political references.

Political personalities had seen the film

A few days after the film’s release, on 2 December, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and other cabinet ministers watched the film at a special screening. This event further fueled the film’s popularity and controversies. However, despite so much discussion and controversies, the film did not perform well at the box office. The film sparked debate among various sections of the society. While some viewers described it as bringing social and political awareness, others called it a one-sided film.
