Hardanahalli Devegowda Kumaraswamy (English: Hardanahalli Devegowda Kumaraswamy, born 16 December 1959) is an Indian politician, who belongs to the political party ‘Janata Dal (Secular). H. D. Kumaraswamy has been the Chief Minister of Karnataka twice. He was the Chief Minister of the state from 3 February 2006 to 8 October 2007 and again from 23 May 2018 to 23 July 2019.
H. D. Kumaraswamy is a politician as well as a film producer. He is the son of HD Deve Gowda, former Prime Minister of India. H. D. Kumaraswamy entered politics from the 1996 general elections and won from Kanakapura (in Ramanagara district). Contested elections from Kanakapura in 1998 and lost to M. V. Chandrashekhar Murthy. Contested elections from Sathanur assembly seat in 1999 and lost. Became MLA from Ramanagara assembly constituency in 2004. Became the 18th Chief Minister of Karnataka on February 4, 2006 and served until October 9, 2007. In 2009, he was re-elected to the 15th Lok Sabha for the second term. Became the leader of opposition in the Karnataka Assembly on May 31, 2013.
