One Nation One Election bill update: Bharatiya Janata Party has issued a ‘three line whip’ for its MPs, in which they have been requested to be present in the Upper House i.e. Lok Sabha on 17th December. It is being told that ‘One Country, One Election’ bill will be introduced in the Lok Sabha tomorrow i.e. Tuesday. Let us tell you that earlier BJP had issued a three-line whip to its MPs for being present in Rajya Sabha on 13 December. It was said that one has to be present for discussion on the Constitution on 16-17 December.
According to sources, senior BJP leader and Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal can present the bill in the Lok Sabha tomorrow i.e. Tuesday at around 12 noon. It is being told that after this the bill will be sent to the JPC. However, PM Modi is on a visit to Rajasthan tomorrow. In such a situation, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has been asked to be present there. In such a situation, he will be exempted from the whip.
Approval was received from the cabinet
Let us tell you that the ‘One Country, One Election’ bill was approved by the Union Cabinet yesterday. This bill can be introduced in the current winter session only. After the bill is passed, elections for Assembly and Lok Sabha can be held simultaneously. The government can also send the bill to JPC for discussion. The government wants that there should be a consensus on the bill and for this the government is not hesitating to send the bill to JPC also. Along with this, Speakers of Legislative Assembly of all the states can also be invited and opinion can also be taken from the intelligent people of the country. The government is confident that a consensus will be reached on the bill.
The committee was formed under the leadership of the former President
The committee headed by former President Ramnath Kovind had contacted 62 political parties. Of these, 32 parties supported the proposal of ‘One Country, One Election’, while 15 parties opposed it and 15 parties did not respond to it. ‘One country, one election’ is one of the major priorities of the Modi government. BJP had also mentioned this issue in the manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and said that work would be done to implement the recommendations of the committee.
